Kibble for Kritters
Our Kibble for Kritters pet food collection began in 2008 as a community service project for our Best Western Evans Hotel. Each December we have a pet food drive, and all the pet food and pet items contributed by the local community are donated to area pet rescue organizations. We have partnered with a number of rescues over the years, and we have had a number of hotels involved in the program, too.
We have hosted pancake breakfast benefits for the rescues in the past, and in 2011, we invited Santa to participate with pictures taken with staff, hotel guests and kids. Pets are invited at the end of December for group pictures with the rescue volunteers, a fun but noisey event!
Each year we try something a little different, in hopes of increasing the donations to the program and to the area rescue organizations. One year we had a local hotel which donated truckloads of retired linens, which were recycled into bedding for use by the rescues. We had a raffle and some great prizes generously donated by hotel partners and we made approximately $1,100 for the rescue that year.
Who knows what the future brings for the program, but we do know the number of pets in shelters increases daily and that families are needed to foster and adopt. Spay/Neuter and donate to Kibble for Kritters or a rescue of your choice.
